reMarkable Is Getting Split Screen — And It's Going to Change How You Plan

Big news from the reMarkable world.

A new software update is currently in beta — and it's bringing one of the most requested features ever:

👉 Split screen view.

Here's what's coming and what it means for your planning workflow.

What Split Screen Actually Does

Once the update rolls out, you'll be able to open two documents side by side directly on your reMarkable.

That means:

📋 Your planner open on the left 📄 A PDF, meeting agenda, or reference doc on the right

No more switching back and forth. No more losing your place. Everything you need — on one screen.

There's also a feature called Split View Presets — your device will remember which two documents you opened together and suggest reopening them the next time you tap either one.

So your morning routine — planner + weekly overview, for example — loads in one tap.

What Else Is Coming

The same update also introduces better handling of very large PDF files.

If you've ever opened a heavy annotated PDF on your reMarkable and felt a slight lag — that's being fixed.

Faster navigation. Smoother scrolling. No more waiting.

Why This Matters for Your Planning Workflow

Right now, the way most reMarkable users plan looks like this:

Open planner → note something → close planner → open reference doc → go back to planner → lose your train of thought.

Split screen removes that friction entirely.

You can follow your weekly overview while filling in your daily page. You can annotate a document while keeping your task list in view. You can do your weekly review with your previous week's notes right next to your new page.

This is the kind of update that doesn't sound revolutionary — until you use it and realize you can't go back.

When Is It Coming?

The update is currently in beta for the Paper Pure, Paper Pro, and Paper Pro Move.

No official release date yet — but based on how reMarkable typically rolls out updates, it's likely within the next few weeks.

And yes — as always with reMarkable software updates, it will roll out to all supported devices. Not just the new ones.

The Best Way to Use Split Screen From Day One

When this drops, the users who get the most out of it immediately are the ones who already have a structured planning system in place.

Because split screen is only as useful as what you put on each side.

If you're working from a hyperlinked planner — daily, weekly, and monthly all connected — you can open exactly what you need on the left and have your reference material on the right without any setup.

That's exactly what our templates are built for.
