New Season, New System — How to Reset Your reMarkable Workflow for Q4
Share
September is here.
And whether you've been using your reMarkable every day all summer or it's been sitting on your desk collecting dust — this is the perfect moment to reset.
Q4 is the most intense quarter of the year for most people. October, November, December go fast. If you don't have a system in place before they start, you'll spend the whole quarter reacting instead of planning.
Here's how to use your reMarkable to set up for a strong finish to 2026.
Step 1 — Do a Full Archive Pass
Before you build anything new, clear out the old.
Open your reMarkable and go through every notebook and folder. Ask one question about each:
Do I still need this active, or can it be archived?
Create a folder called "Archive — 2026 H1" and move everything from the first half of the year that you don't need daily access to.
This isn't deleting. It's just moving things out of your working space so you can see clearly what's actually active.
Takes 15 minutes. Makes everything feel lighter.
Step 2 — Rebuild Your Folder Structure for Q4
Fresh quarter, fresh structure.
Here's a simple folder setup that works for most people:
- 01 — Weekly Planning — your current week and the one ahead
- 02 — Active Projects — anything you're working on right now
- 03 — Work Notes — meeting notes, reference material
- 04 — Personal — journaling, habits, personal goals
- 05 — Archive — everything from before September
Number them so they stay in order. reMarkable organises folders alphabetically — numbers keep your most important folders at the top.
Delete or rename anything that doesn't reflect how you actually work right now. Your Q2 folder structure was built for a different season.
Step 3 — Set Your Q4 Focus
Before you fill in a single daily page — zoom out.
Open a blank page and answer three questions:
What do I want to have done by December 31st? Not a full goal list. Two or three things that would make Q4 feel like a success.
What got in the way in Q3? Be honest. Was it too many commitments? Wrong priorities? Not enough planning time? Knowing the pattern helps you avoid it.
What needs to change in how I work? One thing. Just one. More focused mornings, fewer meetings, a weekly review that actually happens. Pick one and build around it.
Write it all down. Keep it somewhere you'll see it — the first page of your weekly planner, or a starred notebook you check every Monday.
Step 4 — Restart Your Daily Habit
If your reMarkable routine slipped over summer, now is the time to bring it back.
Start small. Not the perfect 45-minute morning routine — the five-minute version.
Open your daily page. Write your top 3 priorities. Start.
That's it. Do that every day for two weeks and the habit rebuilds itself. Then you can add more.
The hardest part is always just opening the device and writing the first thing. Make that as easy as possible and everything else follows.
Step 5 — Star Your Most-Used Files
Once your new structure is in place, star the files you'll use every day.
Hold any file for three seconds → tap the star.
It goes straight to your Quick Find drawer — two-finger swipe from the top of the screen, accessible from anywhere on the device.
Your weekly planner, your current project notebook, your Q4 goals page. Star them all.
You want Monday morning to be: open device, two-finger swipe, tap the right file, start. No navigating, no searching.
The Reset Takes One Hour
Archive pass — 15 minutes. New folder structure — 10 minutes. Q4 focus page — 15 minutes. Star your files — 5 minutes. First daily page — 5 minutes.
One hour. And you start Q4 with a clear device, a clear system, and a clear head.
